The tarhatinsky Megalithic complex

The megalithic complex was investigated in 1994 by an expedition of the Gorno-Altai state University under the leadership of V. I. Soenov. The facility is located in the Chui steppe 20 km to the South-West of the village of Kosh-Agach road from Kosh-Agach – Jazz-Thor 2 km North-West of R. Tarhata.

The tarhatinsky megalithic complex consists of stacked in a circle of stones, rounded boulders and stone formations of varying size from 0.5 m to 6 m in diameter. The largest blocks of size 6x5x4 m. the Inner diameter of the building is 60 m.

On the rocks facilities include petroglyph composition. In the course of their study, it was determined that the facility was constructed in the bronze age, or at least no later than the late bronze age.

The process of construction of object is not clear enough and therefore, given that the nearest exit of bedrock is located 12 km North-West of the megalithic complex, one can propose two hypotheses: 1. All the rocks brought by a glacier, then arranged the people according to the plan (or only the big rocks brought by the glacier, and smaller – brought by the people during construction), 2. All the stones were brought by people. Continue reading

In 2003, the island was visited by the expedition of S. A. Grigorieva, N. M. Menshenina and M. S. Arkanov, which made the conclusion about the antiquity of this monument and made his initial description and documentation [1]. In the summer and autumn of 2004 on the island worked expedition of the Chelyabinsk scientific center of UB RAS under the guidance of the authors of this article. In this paper we will not dwell on the description of detected objects given in the above

The field season of 2004 was made on the largest megalithic structure No. 1. This work made significant changes in our ideas about this monument, formed on the basis of the previous studies. So it was assumed that recorded in the southern part of the deepening and associated Windows have been made by believers in the reuse of the monument [1]. However, the discovery of the wall in one of the indentations suggested that indentations are the result of the collapse of the floors, and there are cameras that collapsed in antiquity. Accordingly, it is possible that recorded in the southern part of the mound the Windows also belong to the original design. Continue reading
